Job
Purpose
The Transport Manager is responsible
for overseeing the transportation operations of the logistics company. This
role involves managing the transportation team, optimizing fleet operations,
ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining compliance with regulations. The
Transport Manager will also be responsible for cost control, vehicle
maintenance, route planning, and customer satisfaction.
Key
Responsibilities
Fleet Management
Oversee the daily operation of the fleet, ensuring
vehicles are utilized efficiently and safely.
Ensure all vehicles are well-maintained, insured, and
comply with relevant safety and environmental regulations.
Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and repairs to
minimize downtime.
Manage the procurement of new vehicles and ensure that
all fleet assets are optimized for performance.
Route Optimization & Planning
Develop and implement efficient route planning to
ensure timely deliveries.
Analyze traffic patterns, weather conditions, and road
networks to improve efficiency.
Implement GPS systems and other tools to monitor and
optimize routes for fuel efficiency, speed, and cost-effectiveness.
Team Leadership & Management
Lead and manage the transportation team, including
drivers, logistics assistants, and support staff.
Train, motivate, and develop the team to ensure high
standards of performance.
Conduct performance evaluations, set targets, and
manage KPIs for the team.
Foster a safe working environment and ensure
compliance with health and safety regulations.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
Ensure all transportation operations comply with
local, national, and international regulations, including licensing,
environmental laws, and safety standards.
Maintain and monitor necessary documentation,
including driver logs, vehicle records, and safety inspections.
Stay updated on industry regulations and implement any
required changes within the operations.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Prepare and manage the transport department’s budget,
ensuring cost control.
Implement strategies to reduce operational costs,
including fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, and manpower.
Analyze transportation costs and look for
opportunities for savings and optimization.
Customer Service & Communication
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by
overseeing timely deliveries and addressing any customer complaints or
issues.
Collaborate with the customer service team to meet
client delivery expectations.
Communicate effectively with internal and external
stakeholders, including suppliers, drivers, and clients.
Reporting & Analytics
Provide regular reports on fleet performance, cost
analysis, delivery timelines, and safety compliance.
Analyze operational data to identify trends and areas
for improvement.
Present key performance metrics to senior management
and propose solutions for optimization.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in transport management
within the logistics or supply chain industry, with a proven track record
in fleet management, route optimization, and team leadership.
Experience managing a team and overseeing transport
operations on a large scale is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of transportation operations, fleet
management, and logistics.
Proficient in using transport management systems
(TMS), GPS tracking, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal
skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage budgets, monitor financial
performance, and control costs.
In-depth understanding of transport regulations and
compliance requirements.
Strong decision-making ability and organizational
skills.
